The Three Minute Thesis® Contest is back for 2014 — and eligibility has been expanded

The contest is open to:
• currently registered graduate students who have made substantial progress (final stages of research) in a master’s by thesis, a master’s by research project, or a PhD program
• students who have successfully defended their thesis, but have not yet graduated are eligible.
After submitting your registration, please be sure to complete the Participation Consent Form and return it to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The form can be found here >>
Also, mark you calendar with the following dates:
• Coaching Session: Week of Feb. 3
(Date, time and location to be determined)
We will help you succeed! All registrants will receive a Coaching Session to help you prepare for your presentation. The one-hour power session will provide you with tips; insights into effective 3MT presentations; crafting your research story so that it’s concise and compelling; and how to take on the postures and presence of an engaging storyteller (ie. the ‘hook’, humour, the ‘close’). The session will be recorded and posted online for anyone who is unable to attend.
• Preliminary rounds: Week of Feb. 24
(Dates, times, locations to be announced following the close of registration)
Depending on the number of registrations received, preliminary rounds will be held the week of Feb. 24 to determine the top spots for Brock’s 3MT finals that are scheduled for Monday, April 7 as part of the annual Mapping the New Knowledges Graduate Student Research Conference .
Please note: Students who do not advance to the finals can choose to give an oral or poster presentation at the April 7 conference.
• Brock 3MT finals: Monday, April 7, Plaza Building, Brock – TBD
The 3MT finalists will compete during the 9th Annual Mapping the New Knowledges Graduate Student Research Conference. The winner of Brock’s final on April 7 will advance to the Ontario 3MT Competition.
• Ontario 3MT Competition: Thursday, April 24, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ont.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies will cover expenses for Brock’s winner to compete in the provincial finals. The Ontario provincial 3MT winner will attend the Canadian national 3MT finals at University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB. (Date to be determined)
